Recreational anglers

Seabirds are great at indicating where the fish are. They hunt using highly developed sight and smell, and learn very quickly that anglers are a source of food. Seabirds can get caught on fishing hooks or tangled in fishing line and nets. If a breeding adult is injured or killed, its chick will die of starvation. Small changes in the way we all fish can have a big impact on seabird survival.

Check out the video clip below by Big Angry Fish on ways to fish around seabirds.  Our resource library below also includes several articles on which birds indicate which fish, a quick guide on how to safely release a seabird, and seabird ID guides.
