The Seafood Industry Training Organisation (SITO) encourages businesses working in fishing and related areas to provide relevant training for their employees.

Recently Southern Seabird Solutions Trust teamed up with SITO to update SITO’s learning resource on the reduction of seabird incidental capture during commercial fishing.  The resource has been developed for new recruits as well as people already in the fishing industry - from skippers to factory managers to crew members. 

The learning resource covers topics such as the ecological, marketing and economic consequences of accidentally killing seabirds, and ways to avoid these interactions.   

Funding for this learning resource was provided by the Ministry of Fisheries and is available on SITO's website.
