Welcome Recreational Fishers!
From what we know seabirds are a blessing and a curse for recreational fishers - they help you find fish, but then steal your bait and get in the road of a good day's fishing.

We're working to help you keep the good part of the relationship, and deal with the problem times:
- Creating a Seabird Smart recreational fishing future
- Fishing for Ideas to keep seabirds away from boats and baits
- Practical advice for how to avoid attracting seabirds and what to do if you accidentally hook one
- Working with Seabird Champions to raise the profile of NZ's seabirds with recreational fishers.
Support
None of this work would be possible without the financial support from our sponsors. The Pacific Conservation Development Trust, the Department of Conservation, The Lion Foundation, Te Ohu Kaimoana, WWF, Berkley Gulp, Geordie Murman and Auckland Zoo have all provided sponsorship or in kind support for a range of the above work.
We're also grateful to those who give their time and expertise including Graeme Sinclair and Geordie Murman as well as those who made the time to attend the recreational workshop and who have contributed in other ways such as well known fishing mags NZ Fishing Coast to Coast and NZ Fishing News.
