Charting the Course - Trust Review Workshop
On 10 and 11 November 2008 the Southern Seabird Solutions Trust hosted a review workshop.
Since 2002, the Trust has been working with fishermen, the fishing industry, governments and NGOs to reduce seabird bycatch in southern hemisphere fisheries. We felt it was important to take stock of what we've accomplished and to look toward the future of our organisation.
Guest speakers at the event included John Croxall, Chair of BirdLife International's Global Seabird Programme; Carlos Moreno, Universidad Austral de Chile, who is a leader in Chile's efforts to reduce seabird bycatch; and Marco Favero, an Argentinian seabird ecologist who is also the Chair of the ACAP Advisory Committee.
After the workshop dinner, internationally acclaimed photographer and writer Tui De Roy inspired attendees with a presentation based on her recently released book: Albatross: their world, their ways.
The workshop was made possible thanks to the generous support of our many sponsors, including: Aotearoa Fisheries Ltd, Beauline International, Deepwater Group Ltd, the Department of Conservation, Encounter Kaikoura, Gourock, Leigh Fisheries Ltd, Leigh Commercial Fishermen's Association, Ministry of Fisheries, New Zealand Seafood Industry Council, Sanford Ltd, Seafood Industry Training Organisation, Sealord, Solander, Te Ohu Kaimoana and WWF-New Zealand.
A summary of the Review Workshop is now available.
